The title “Twelve Tribes” refers to the twelve tribes of Israel, descended from Jacob, and to a history in which unity is built out of plurality. Rather than a narrative scene, the work makes this biblical memory resonate through an arrangement of signs, repetitions, and breaks. The contrasting palette and vibrant light give the whole an almost ritual presence, while the fragmentation of the surface can evoke both dispersion and belonging to a common origin.

The gestural brushwork and textured paint surface, however, keep the painting in the realm of painting rather than illustration. Forms emerge, answer one another, and overlap across a space deliberately asserted as surface. The solemn atmosphere and the very lively energy create a tension between ancient memory and contemporary movement: the motif of the twelve tribes thus becomes less a representation than a space for transmission, meditation, and interpretation.
